Grunge reinvents itself this season

With summer well and truly departed, the fashion trends have taken a turn towards all garments leather, denim, fur and urban patterns.

The new fresh face this month, Lilly Brodie from Asha Model Managemen,t has had the opportunity to shoot with up and coming photographers to showcase the latest range.

The 16-year-old Sunshine Coast student studying at Immanuel Lutheran College was scouted over Facebook by the founder and manager of Asha Model Management, Angie Toner.

Lilly’s unique look had her landing the autumn/winter shoots for Sunshine Coast boutique Gypsy Stone and the Sticks and Stones agency which featured Alterior Motif clothing.

The photo shoots had Lilly “in love” with the designer’s unique combinations of clothing along with the clothing’s diverse style, she said.

“This autumn there is a lot of denim and leather, the whole “grunge” look is in at the moment,” Lilly said.

The shoot for Sticks and Stones by Janneke Storm Photography was a combination of prep and grunge look featuring big T-shrits, red leather pants, over-the–top fur coats and denim bomber jackets, all topped off with dark burgundy lips.

However, the hair that is trending this month is all slicked and pulled back in a high messy pony tail which allows ladies to accentuate their strongest features on their face.

Applying makeup for day-to-day wear is a simple nude palette with a bright lip, but if lips are not your thing play up your eyes with musk-browns or emphasize the cheek bones.

Lilly said the Alterior Motif shoot began with a 50s-inspired look with neat hair in rollers, but the “grunge” element was pulled in with dark makeup which she said was ideal for outings.

One thing on Lilly’s mind when she is arranging an outfit for the day is leather.

“I love leather, just lots of leather and anything colourful especially bright T-shirts, I wore a sequinned tee for Sticks and Stones and I just fell in love with it,” Lilly said.

Lilly said she is shopping this month at Alterior Motif, Universal Store, Subi and Sportsgirl.

For those looking to grab a bargain, this month will be the time to nab those statement items at the mid-season sales.
