Five vegan-friendly eateries on the Sunshine Coast

By Shavonne Hansell

Love it or not, the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle is revolutionising the global hospitality industry and shows no signs of slowing down.

Well-known conglomerates like McDonald’s and Hungry Jacks are jumping on-board the vegan train and creating meat alternatives for Aussie consumers. In 2019, Roy Morgan found just under two and a half million Aussies have opted for a vegetarian lifestyle.

Here is a list of five Sunshine Coast restaurants that offer delicious plant-based meals that won’t break the bank.

Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co: BETTY’S CLASSIC VEGAN BURGER 12.5

Betty’s Classic Vegan burger is assembled with fresh salad, spicy vegan mayo on a fried brown rice and vegetable pattie. Although the burger alone earns a 3/5 rating, it is lowered to 2.5/5 by being the only vegan option on the menu. But add a side of chips and a beer and you’ll walk away with a pleasant sense of nostalgia.

Betty’s Burgers invites you into the rose-coloured world of the 1950s. With its pastel colour scheme and vibrant candy dispensers, you’ll want to lounge under the hanging ferns and fairy lights all day.

For those new to veganism, the vegan cheeseburger is damn close to the real thing. Topped with salad and vegan mayonnaise, it’s an enticing alternative. For vegetarians, the Garden Goodness pattie goes perfectly with cheese, a fresh salad and herbed mayo sauce.

Grill’d has meshed a rustic design with a hipster touch through its playful interior design. With a variety of vegan and vegetarian choices, Grill’d wins a 4/5 stars for offering customers a burger joint that is inclusive of all.
