It’s still illegal: Magistrate slams use of cannabis

By Nicole Hegarty.

A pensioner has been fined and reminded of the illegality of his drug use.

Palmwoods resident Mark Anthony Roberto King today pleaded guilty to three drug-related charges in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

King interrupted proceedings multiple times, citing his poor hearing.

Duty lawyer Andrew Berneville-Claye said King had forgotten about the mature cannabis plant.

Mr Berneville-Claye said King had grown cannabis solely for personal medicinal use.

Magistrate Rod Madsen said King should consider purchasing hearing aids.

“Maybe you should spend the money more wisely,” Mr Madsen said.

“I don’t care what’s wrong with you – it’s illegal.”

King was fined $1750 and made to forfeit the drugs and utensils.
