Comfort found in familiar, fast fare

KFC Sippy Downs, a small, mainly take-away restaurant at the best of times, is now even smaller thanks to the “please do not sit here” tape covering half of the tables and a distinct lack of chairs. This, however, makes it quicker for a newly vacated table to be cleaned. As far as restaurants go these days this is pretty standard protocol.

The price tag matches the quantity and quality, making the meals well worth your dollars. If you’re a fussy eater or if you’re coming with a group, the best way to get value for money and ensure you enjoy everything is to order via the “build your own box” option in the KFC app. The online prices diverge from the glowing screens in-store, but overall they are cheaper — especially if you up-size your order.

I order and pay prior to arrival to ensure I am served promptly no matter how busy it is.

The result is as I expect it always will be: greasy, oily and yet crispy on the outside and moist in the middle. To draw on its traditional slogan, the 11 spices and herbs used in the crumbing does really make it ‘finger lickin’ good’.

As for drinks, if you’re lucky enough to go on a day when the frozen machine isn’t on defrost half raspberry and half Mountain Dew mixed frozen is a must.

This is definitely not an everyday meal, but after a big day of studying, shopping or running errands it’s a go to for ease, price and taste.
